An extended guide on ear brackets, earpieces and all that in between
There are many different kinds of jewelry parts that you can use when making earrings yourself. In the midst of all the concepts, however, one can lose your breath, because what is the difference between a creole and a hoop? And when to use an earpiece and when an ear brace - and what is an ear hook then?
In this guide we dress well so you can navigate the selection of jewelry parts and find exactly what is best suited for you and your project!
What is the difference between ear hook and ear brace?
The function of these is basically the same, but there is a small difference in the closure. An ear brace typically has a small closure and is oval, while an ear hook is just a hook that is passed through the ear. However, the concepts are used a little loosely and you will be able to find both words used in different contexts.
These earrings are good for slightly larger earrings, as the ear hook can "fill" a lot compared to a single small stone or pearl.
Ear brackets are available in many sizes, so remember to check the dimensions to get exactly the size that suits your project. You can find our selection here!
Earpiece
An ear stick, as the name suggests, has a plug that is passed through the ear. It has a lock that ensures that the earring does not fall out. Earries can be large or small, but characterized by the locking mechanism. In our range we only carry smaller models that are best suited to finer jewelry with small beads. They can easily be long, but not too wide. The size is worth considering when planning your design. You can find our models here!
Chain earrings
An ear chain is passed through the ear and has chain both on the front and back. That sits a small jump ring in the chain, making it easy to mount beads on it. Ear chains are available both With and without a hanger. If you use the model with a hanger, it is predetermined how much the chain hangs in front and back.
It can be difficult to mount heavy stones and pearls in ear chains as they can slip out of the ear. The models with a hanger can hang crooked if the weight is too large. However, the problem can be solved with a rubber lock on the chains without a hanger which ensures that the chain stays where it should. You can find our selection of ear chains here!
Creols and Hoops
Quite square, Hoops is bigger than Creols, but here on the site we all call finished jewelry for hoops and those for DIY projects for mounting creblies.
Mounting cracks are available in several different variants, so keep your tongue straight in the mouth. You can find mounting cracks without bend, which are good if you want to put beads directly on the wire as you do not have to bend the lock down and up (it can also result in it breaking).
Fantry mounting cracks, on the other hand, are ideal for mounting pendants or making wire wrapping (a technique where you wine wire around the creole with pearls).
There are also mounting cracks mounted in an earplug or ear hook. These are not intended to go through the ear, but are good at putting pearls on. You can find our entire selection of mounting cracks here!
Ear clips
Last but not least, we also have earrings for you without holes in your ears. There are both models where one can glue things on, as well as models with one jump ring, Where you can fix exactly what you dream of. You can find our selection here!
