Guide to Metals - Jewelry and Jewelry
In this guide you will find information about the different materials we have in the store, both For jewelry kettles and finished jewelry. There are different quality levels and therefore prices vary as well - but with us high quality does not have to be expensive!
Read on below to get an insight into the durability of various materials.
Sterling silver
Sterling silver is a concept you probably often encounter, but what does sterling silver really mean? Sterling silver, also called real silver, consists of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, typically copper. It is one of the most sought after precious metals in the jewelry industry due to its high quality and durability.
Goldering generally keeps well on silver, but we make a virtue of ensuring good and durable gildings. Our finger rings and small hoops are, among other things, gilded locally, and we are known for a thick layer of gold that lasts long!
Unfortunately, we do not sell real gold in the store, but some items can be ordered home in the store against a deposit.
Brass
Brass is also a commonly used material for making jewelry and jewelry parts as it is cheaper to produce - but keeps brass color? The quality is not as high as sterling silver. It is rare to see brass in your natural color; It is more often used gilded or silver.
These coatings can be very durable but if one does not take good care of your jewelry (see how here in The guide), you can risk the coating fading quickly.
Aluminum
Aluminum is also used in jewelry production, although we do not have many jewelry made in this material. Aluminum is characterized by being very light and weighing almost nothing - and it is also quite cheap. Coatings generally hold well on aluminum and you can expect a aluminum jewelry to last long.
Steel
With us you will find jewelry and jewelry parts in both Pure steel and gilded steel. We have a few steels in steel as well as a selection of necklaces and bracelets. The gilding on steel can last a few seasons, but gilded steel often has a darker tint. In addition, steel is a very strong material, which gives it a long shelf life.
Zamak
Zamak is an alloy of zinc, magnesium, aluminum and copper. Coatings bind well on this material and you can expect a longer shelf life. Zamak is relatively new in our range, but we are working to add more jewelry and jewelry parts in this material.
Doublé
Doublé is a method of treating gildings on. The process is slightly different from ordinary gildings, as gold-doublé has a much thicker layer of gold, which is rolled on and makes the material significantly more durable. The process is typically performed on brass, copper or sterling silver. You can find jewelry wire and chains in our selection of gold doubles.
Fairtrade gold and recycling silver
Many of our jewelry is now made of certified recycling silver, and when we gild jewelry, we use Fairtrade Gold exclusively. It creates both An environmental friendliness and ethically responsible production!
